Woodrow GARRETT

Woodrow Garrett, (Pat), age 95 went to be with his Lord, Wednesday, May 19, 2010 peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Pat was born January 25, 1915 in Clarkton, Missouri to the late Chester Arthur and Etta Garrett. He grew up in Kennett, Missouri moving to Flint, Michigan at the age of 24. Pat joined the Navy December 26, 1941, during WWII and served his Country honorably onboard a mine sweeper and the USS Ozark in the Pacific Theater. One of his proudest moments was watching his country's flag being raised on Iwo Jima. After the war Pat returned to Flint where he began his career as a boom truck operator for Negle/Walker Outdoor Sign Company where he worked for 30 years before retiring. Known as Uncle Pat to everyone who met him he was a kind and gentle man who loved everyone. He was an avid outdoorsman and passionate lover of nature who hunted well into his 80's. Uncle Pat focused his life on loving his family, leaving them with many happy memories. We will remember his love, his patience, his humor, and his desire for everyone to love each other. Pat is survived by Niece and Nephew in-law Donald and Annetta Sue Yount with whom he had resided for over 40 years, sister Wilma Balico, and 4 generations of Nieces and Nephews. He is preceded in death by Brothers Chester Arthur Garrett Jr., and James Garrett, Sisters Una Fae Bond, Mary Etta Myers, and Sarah Hewitt. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Sharp Funeral Home 6030 Fenton Road, Flint. Rev. David Hintz will officiate with burial to follow at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, Grand Blanc, Michigan. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home Saturday, May 22, 2010 4-8 p.m. A special thanks to his hospice Nurses Sue Meiers and Anita Thomas for all the loving care they gave him. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made to Carriage Town Ministries, 605 Garland Street, Flint, MI 48503. Uncle Pat was a special man who believed in Family, God and Country. He was loved by all who knew him. We will miss him deeply.
