ALLEN, Winifred J., age 94 of Grand Blanc, formerly of Cadillac, MI, passed away Monday, February 1, 2010. Winifred was born August 16, 1915 in Albion, MI to Andrew G. and Edith (Bowen) Whalen. She was raised in Albion and graduated from Albion High School in 1933. She met and married her husband of 61 years, George M. Allen, May 2, 1937 in Albion. He preceded her in death in 1998. Winifred had lived in Cadillac, MI for 32 years prior to moving to Abbey Park in Grand Blanc in 2001. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Cadillac and a member of the St. Anne's Sew and Chat Group. She loved to travel and at a young age made a list of all the places she would like to visit in her lifetime and was able to see each one. She and her husband George spent many years traveling and camping in their travel trailer. While living in Abbey Park she led exercise classes and enjoyed the music programs and bingo. She loved to knit and crochet in her spare time and spent time teaching this craft to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Winifred is survived by her six children; Mike and Christy of Scottville, Pat and Judy of Flushing, Tim and Mary Arthur of Linden, Tom and Janet of St. Clairesville, OH, John and Sue of DeSoto, TX and Tim and Patty of Livonia. There are 18 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren and a nephew Charles Hollar of Battle Creek. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister Alice Hollar and a Daughter-in-law Judy Allen. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 12:30 P.M. Friday, Feburary 5, 2010 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton. Rev. Fr. David Harvey will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery in Marshall, MI. The family will receive friends at the Sharp Funeral Home, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd. Thursday from 1:00 to 8:00 P.M. The Rosary will be prayed at the funeral home 7:00 P.M.
