VanDRIESSCHE, William T. - Age 97, of Linden, died Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Genesys Hospice Care Center. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St, Fenton. Burial immediately following at St. John Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St, Linden Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9 PM and at the church Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass. A vigil service will be held 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions to the Wounded Warriors Project. William was born April 26, 1914 in Belgium, the son of Emil and Louise (Lauwaert) VanDriessche. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. He married Agnes Savage August 16, 1940 in Detroit and she preceded him in death March 12, 1975. William retired from Vernors in Detroit after 42 years of service. He played football for the Junior Lions in Detroit. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Detroit and loved to fish. Surviving are: 4 children, Diane and husband James Gilbert of Michigan and Arizona, Michelle Bobo of Flint, Jan and wife Carolyn VanDriessche of Jackson and Peter and wife Becky VanDriessche of Durand; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson; brother, Edward and wife Loretta VanDreiessche of Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
