ROOT, William B. -- Age 73, of Swartz Creek, died Sunday, August 20, 2006 at Genesys Health Park. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, August 22 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be 3-5 and 7-9 PM Monday. Those desiring may make contributions to Genesys Hospice. Mr. Root was born September 11, 1932 in Flint the son of Bethel and Pauletta (Crocker) Root. He was raised in Lennon, and lived in the Lennon and Swartz Creek area most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Root married Harriet Culver on May 7, 1955 in Mt. Morris. He retired as a Pipefitter leader from G.M. Chevrolet Manufacturing in 1988 with 36 years of service. He had been a Webelo leader for many years. He enjoyed bowling and his morning GM Coffee Club on Thursdays at Shaps. Mr. Root is survived by: his wife of 51 years Harriet; seven children, Chris (Bill) Culler, Donna (Kevin) McCann, all of Ohio, Douglas (Tari) of Flushing, Gerald (Nanette) of Swartz Creek, William R. (Margaret) of Vicksburg, Carol (Jeffrey) Risinger of Flushing, Andrew of Swartz Creek; sixteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorthea Simonye of Hillman, Ruth Justice, Vivian Weir, both of Florida, Laura (Richard) Haugh of Swartz Creek; brothers Nelson G. of Bancroft, Bethel (Joyce) of Bay City; Asa (L. June) of Lennon, Charles (Shirley) of Bath; sister-in-law, Mary Root of Linden; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Thomas and George.
