William Dale Gillmore

William Dale Gillmore, lovingly known as “Mr. Gillmore,” passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, at the age of 89 in Flint Township. A man of boundless generosity and skill, William left a lasting legacy in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A celebration of William’s life will take place at 1 PM on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Grand Blanc, with Fr. Jay Gantz officiating. Friends and family are welcome to gather for visitation from 11 AM until the time of the service. William will be laid to rest at Flint Memorial Park in Mt. Morris.

Born on March 12, 1935, in Flint, Michigan, William was the son of Harry and Florence (Acount) Gillmore. He dedicated many years to General Motors as a Committee man. Outside of work, William was the embodiment of a “Jack of All Trades.” Known as the man who could fix anything, his neighbors, friends, and family counted on him for a helping hand and trusted his know-how.

William’s kindness knew no bounds. His love for children and animals was evident to all who knew him. Whether it was tinkering in the garage, lending a hand to a neighbor, or offering his time to help others, William was always there—steady, reliable, and compassionate.

He is survived by his children, Dale William Gillmore and Colleen Lizotte; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews who cherished him deeply. William was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley; his sons, Michael Lee Gillmore, Neal Nelson Gillmore, and Christopher Dean Gillmore; grandchildren, Chad Gillmore, Wesley Gillmore; great granddaughter, Chloe Gillmore; son-in-law, Harold Lizotte; daughter-in-law, Frances Ortiz; and his siblings, Omer, Harry, Valerie, Shirley Ann, and Vera.

William’s memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched. His life was a testament to hard work and love for family. The family encourages acts of kindness in his honor, as William’s greatest legacy was helping others.
