BURKE, William J. - age 84, of Fenton, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Genesys Health Park. Private family services have been held and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to a local food bank of their choice. Mr. Burke was born September 23, 1929 in Detroit, the son of Henry and Cora Mae (Berry) Burke. He received a Bachelor of Arts from David Lipscomb College where he graduated Cum Laude and received the Greek Prather Medal for his translation of the Bible and Iliad into Greek. He also received a Master Degree from Vanderbilt University. Mr. Burke was a professor of political science and history at Schoolcraft College where he taught for 52 years, retiring in 2005 and becoming an Emeritus Professor as he continued to teach part time. During the 70's he hosted Future Weeks at Schoolcraft College. Mr. Burke also owned several auto glass companies and was an ordained minister in the Church of Christ. He was a funny, caring and loving man. Surviving are: wife and the love of his life, Christine of Fenton; children, Stephen (Susan) Burke, Dan (Theresa) Burke, Matt (Lisa) Burke, Sarah (Dave) Baer, Joel (Sue) Burke, Doug (Shelley) Fulton, Jason Fulton, Mariel Fulton; special grandchildren, Troy, Douglas and Rylee Fulton and numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Thompson; and his beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Gyzmo.
