Wilbur Backus

BACKUS, Wilbur H. - Age 84, of Davison, died Monday, October 20, 2008 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint. Burial immediately following in Flint Memorial Park, Mt. Morris. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6-9 PM Tuesday, 1-4 and 6-9 PM Wednesday. Those desiring may make contributions to the Disabled American Veterans or charity of ones choice. Mr. Backus was born September 27, 1924 in Cadillac, the son of Fred G. and Hazel B. (Egbert) Backus. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. He married Margaret M. Plumb February 7, 1948 in Rankin. Mr. Backus retired in 1976 from GM Buick after 34 years of service. Surviving are: wife, Margaret; 5 children, Janet Russ and husband Ron of Nevada, Barbara Harvey and husband Patrick of Columbiaville, Margaret Stone and husband David of St. Charles, MO, Bill Backus and wife Nancy of Davison, Bradley Backus and Kim Munson of Davison; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson; 7 sisters, Virginia Zuhlke of Imlay City, Roslie Richer of Burton, Wanitta Cartier of Cadillac, Myrtle Snow of Montrose, Emma Welch of Cadillac and Tressie Backus of Cadillac; several nieces and nephews.
