GILROY, Wendell - Age 79, died Monday, April 13, 2020 from the Cononavirus COVD19 at Ascension Hospital. He has been a resident of
the Grand Blanc Regency Medical Facility for the past two years. Arrangements handled by Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint.
He was born in Sault Ste. Marie, MI on June 8,1940. A 1959 graduate of Sault Area Public schools, he lettered in basketball, football, track while in school. He also umpired slow pitch softball for 20 years in the Flint Area.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1963-1967 mostly upon the USS Ranger patrolling the South China Seas as a dental tech. Upon discharge from the Navy, he spent the next 40 years working at GLC Bowling Supplies on Fenton Road in Flint, with his brother Howard.
He is survived by 2 daughters. Amy( Norm) Tamkin and 2 granddaughters Casey and Jamie of California. Angela Gilroy of Augustine, Fl. Sisters Glenda (Joe Gray) of Marquette, MI, Coralie (Jim Lamoreaux) of St. Ignace, MI., brothers: Don Gilroy of Kinross, MI and Marjorie Kohlman of Denton, N.C. Also, several special nieces, nephews and friends.
He was pre-deceased by his Parents, Harry Gilroy, Jean Shufelt (Cecil Shufelt) and stepmother Eva Gilroy. Sisters Delores Swosinski, Marion Woodby, Lois Toth and brothers Howard Gilroy, Dan Gilroy and step brother Jeff Wickman.
Graveside services will be held at a later date. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
