Wanita Mays

MAYS, Wanita Marie - Age 89, of Flint Township, died Wednesday, January 17, 2018. Funeral services will be held 1PM Monday, January 22, 2018, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Pastor Jim Garfield officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1PM - 8PM Sunday and 12PM Monday until time of service at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society. Wanita was born in Flint, Michigan,on September 20, 1928 the daughter of the late Cecil Ernest and Many Elizabeth (Hooks) Richard. She married Gus Mays in Missouri on January 31, 1948 and he preceded her in death on January 19,1981. Wanita enjoyed watching Minnesota Twins baseball, crocheting, crafting, and spending time with her family, friends and church group. She worked for General Motors, AC Spark Plug plant for 5 years, Kmart for 10 years, and retired from Hudson's with 20 years of service. Surviving are: children, Jerry (Jan) Mays of FL, Gerry (Michele) Mays of FL, Brenda Waites of Flint, Rick Mays of KY; 9 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Wanita was also survived by, her sister, Bernice (Jim) Hendrix of Swartz Creek; brother, Larry (Nancy) Richard of Flushing and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Marguerite, Dorothy, Dickie, Glendall, Lois, Bobbie and Donald. Online condolences may be posted on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
