Walter Schmidt

On the morning of May 29, 2021 Walter Paul Schmidt of Linden died at the age of 86. Walt was born in Detroit to Walter and Helen Schmidt in 1934. He graduated from Northern Central High School and attended Flint Junior College. He was a real estate broker and then the president and owner of an appraisal business in Flint. Three sisters Virginia Daggett, Betty Dunlap, and Donna Elliott as well as a baby son, ex-wife Patricia Eriksson, and wife Beverly Schmidt predeceased Walt. He is survived by his wife, Jackie, his three children, Carey Schmidt (Sherry) of Fenton, LeAnn Yannelli (John) of New York, Craig Schmidt (Carolyn) of Linden; grandchildren, Matthew (Laura), Corey (Chelsea), Aaron, and Casey Yankee (Kyle), three great-grandchildren, three nieces and two nephews, stepchildren Bob Boka (Gail) of Burton, Darin Boka (Tammy) of Lapeer, Shayne Daup (Curt) of Genesee, several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the Linden United Methodist Church, where he sang in the Choir for many years; a founding member of the Genesee County Habitat for Humanity; a long time member of the Kiwanis Club of Flint; and a Mason. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, boating and had a special affinity for woodworking, furniture making and antique cars. In additon to making many pieces of furniture for his friends and family, he fully restored a 1928 Franklin, which he later donated to the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners.
