Virginia Victoria SALYERS

SALYERS, Virginia Victoria - age 87, of Swartz Creek, died Monday, December 13, 2010 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Services will be held 1 PM Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., with Renee Varner officiating. Interment will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Tuesday and 12-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Salyers was born March 22, 1923 in West VanLear, KY, the daughter of Elmer and Flora (McKenzie) Jones. She married Elighe "Red" Salyers in 1946 and he preceded her in death on March 23, 1996. Mrs. Salyers was a schoolteacher for many years and managed a family owned restaurant. She was a long time resident of Swartz Creek. Surviving are: six daughters, Mary Salyers of Swartz Creek, Retha (Roger) Orr of Flint, Virginia (James) Hendricks of Flint, Margie (Charles) Welch of Swartz Creek, Patricia (John) Ostwald of Swartz Creek, Regina (Kenneth) Beehler of Burton; daughter-in-law, Virginia Salyers; 14 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sheila Diane Salyers, son Donnie Salyers; four sisters, Cova Cantrell, Edith Kestner, Delores Varner, and Emma Shell; brother, Ova Jones.
