McDOWELL, Virgil Hoyle - age 88, of Fenton, died Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at Crestmont Healthcare Facility. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, February 24, 2007 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton with Chaplain Allen F. Schweizer officiating. A Masonic Memorial will be held 10:30 AM Saturday under the auspices of Fenton Lodge # 109 F & AM. Interment will follow at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery where veterans honors will be performed under the auspices of Fenton VFW Curtis Wolverton Post #3243. Visitation will be held from 7-9 PM Thursday and 2-5 and 7-9 PM Friday at the funeral home. An Order of Eastern Star Memorial Service will be held 7 PM Friday under the auspices of Fenton O.E.S. # 248. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Fenton Lodge #109 F & AM or the Lake Fenton United Methodist Church. Mr. McDowell was born August 4, 1918 in Grinnell, IA, the son of William Orville and Grace Viola (Hoyle) McDowell. He married Roberta Jane Stoddard on December 24, 1943 in Fenton and she preceded him in death. Mr. McDowell was a Crib Attendant at the Chevy V8 plant for 30 years retiring in 1977. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. McDowell was a member of Fenton Lodge #109 F & AM, Fenton O.E.S #248 and many other Masonic Orders. He was also a member of Fenton VFW Curtis Wolverton Post #3243. Surviving are: two daughters, Linda S. McDowell of Dade City, FL, Janette H. McArthur of Flint; two granddaughters, April A. and Derek Holmes of Flint, Colette M. Burandt of TX; two great-granddaughters, Toni Marie and Samantha; two sisters, Esther Wiles, Waunita and husband, Wayne Smith. He was also preceded in death by: granddaughter, Karen.
