Verna Irene SWERDAN

SWERDAN, Verna Irene - age 87, of Roscommon, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Grayling. Services will be held 1 PM Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint. Visitation will be held 1-4 and 6-8 PM Friday and 11 AM until time of servie Saturday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Mercy Home Health Care, 324 Meadows Drive, Grayling, MI 49738. Mrs. Swerdan was born March 13, 1925 in Flint, the daughter of Frederick William and Hazel Marie (Bauder) Herkel. She married Basil W. Swerdan on August 23, 1947 and he preceded her in death in February 29, 2008. Mrs. Swerdan retired from C.J. Rogers Construction as a payroll administrator. She had also worked for Utley Construction and Buick Motor during World War II. Mrs. Swerdan was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Post 64. She was also a Den Mother with the Cub Scouts. Surviving are: two sons, Barry Swerdan (Robin O'Neil) of Hubbard Lake, Randy Swerdan of Higgins Lake; daughter, Lori Swerdan and Tom of Flint; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Jane Tracy of White Lake; brother, Jack (Ruth) Herkel of Thomson, GA; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members.
