February 27, 1945 — September 11, 2008

ROGERS, Van M. -- Age 63, of Fenton, loving husband, son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, nephew, cousin and dear friend, passed suddenly after a 45 month heroic battle with Glioblastoma Multi Forme Brain Cancer on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at home in the arms of his loving wife. A private family Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, September 15, 2008 at St. Rita Catholic Church, 309 E. Maple, Holly. Fr. David Blazek celebrant. Interment in Lakeside Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be held 5-9 PM Saturday, 2-5 & 7-9 PM Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. A memorial service will be held 7:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Van was born February 27, 1945 in Flint the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Nierescher) Rogers. He graduated from Fenton High School in 1963. In January of 1968 he married his beloved wife, Dianne and they made their home in Fenton most of their lives. Van retired in 1999 after working for Chevrolet, Buick and then GM Service Parts Operations after 32 years. After he retired he spent many happy days puttering around their home alongside Dianne. He also enjoyed camping, walking, fishing, biking with family and friends. Van will be dearly missed by his wife of 40 years. Where one was, the other was at their side. He will also be remembered with a funny story, as he always tried to bring humor into his conversations. Surviving are his cherished wife, Dianne; brothers, Bradley (Sue) Rogers, Joe (Rita) Rogers; sister, Tina (Dwight) Daley; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Tim) Alger, Esther Galuszka; brother-in-law, Felix (RuthAnn) Galuszka; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Paul T. Galuszka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to 'The Reunion with a Cause' Genesys Health Foundation. This was a yearly event that Van, Dianne, her family and many, many others worked on to help raise money for Genesys cancer patients to help with medical aide or other assistance for the underinsured or patients that had no insurance while fighting cancer. A special thank you to Dr. Gary King, Dr. Stuart Weiner and the staff of the Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute.
