Todd Neal HAMMOND

HAMMOND, Todd Neal, 53, formerly of Fenton, MI, died suddenly April 15, 2014, at his home in Valtice, Czech Republic. A funeral service was held there on April 26, 2014. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, with a visitation and sharing at 11 AM and service starting at noon. His cousin, Pastor Deborah Grazier, will officiate. Interment will be in Byron Village Cemetery. Todd was born September 29, 1960, in Lansing, MI, to Harry N. and Bethany (Anderson) Hammond. He graduated from Fenton High School in 1979, Michigan State University in 1987 and did graduate study in Czech language at the University of Michigan. Todd's life was full of adventure and fulfilled dreams. As a young man, he hitchhiked across America and taught English throughout Europe. He arrived in Brno, Czechoslovakia, in March, 1990, soon after the Velvet Revolution to volunteer as an English teacher. He met and married Barbora (Thrlik) Summers. Together they purchased and renovated an old house and an old business building in Valtice and, besides teaching, started a gift and flower shop. Todd was highly regarded as a translator of Czech historical documents and books. He sang in several choirs. Todd is survived by his wife, Barbora; 3 stepchildren, Suzi Sabata of Blue Lake, CA, Michael Summers of San Francisco, CA and Katie Summers of Brno, Czech Republic; his parents; brother, Thomas (Joellyn) of Ortonville; 3 nephews, Jeffrey, Douglas and Jacob; uncle Douglas Anderson (Sharon); aunts Erma Anderson and Mildred Anderson; many beloved cousins. Todd was preceded in death by grandparents, Harry and Mildred Hammond and Alonzo and Eva Anderson; uncles Martin, Jack and Richard, aunts Ruth and Margaret.
