Thomas was passionate about hockey, having played in youth leagues from squirt up through high school where he was a defenseman for the Swartz Creek Dragons, where he met and became friends with many. After graduation, Thomas enlisted in the United States Air Force, having served in Texas and Idaho. He was proud to be a Veteran.
