Thomas H. Walters of Wichita Falls, Texas, formerly Fenton and Davison, Michigan, passed away December 3, 2021.
Tom was born in Detroit, Michigan, on February 25, 1948, the son of Jack and Leonora Walters. The family moved to Fenton in 1954. Tom graduated from Lake Fenton High School, Class of 1966, and later earned his engineering degree from General Motors Institute and his MBA from Central Michigan University.
Following graduation he married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Hoffman. Together they are the proud parents of two sons, Daniel and Andrew.
His career started with AC Sparkplug in Flint and the transition to Delphi was responsible for his relocation to Wichita Falls, Texas. Tom stayed dedicated to Delphi through their shutdown, always looking out for his workers. His second career was with Sealed Air/Cryovac in plastics packaging. He managed the expansion of their plant and operations.
Tom was a dedicated husband, father and son. He was a kind man with a dry sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He had many talents and was known to build or fix anything. His beautiful woodworking projects will be cherished by those to whom he gifted.
One of Tom’s proudest accomplishments was as a Boy Scout leader (Troop 15) in the Northwest Texas Council. Their troop learned valuable life skills while camping at reservations in Oklahoma and at Camp Perkins in North Texas as members of the Order of the Arrow. In the summer months they would head to Creede, Colorado for high adventure camping. The highlight of Tom’s time as their leader was the trip to the 1997 National Jamboree where they joined 36,000 other scouts at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. Tom was presented the Silver Beaver award in 1997, the highest honor bestowed to a volunteer from the scouting council for the impact he made on the youth in this organization.
Tom had a fascination with suspension bridges; he walked the Mackinac Bridge with family on Labor Day 2017, nine months post heart surgery. It was a bucket list activity for him. He enjoyed his time in the woods of Michigan and Texas hunting with his friends. In the winter months he was known to return to Michigan to snowmobile and visit with his family.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carolyn; son, Daniel (Tatiana) Walters, and son, Andrew Walters; sisters, Caroline (Walter) Routhier and Linda (Gregory) Hathaway; brothers-in-law, Ken (Cathy) Turnbow, Doug (Susan) Hoffman, Rob (Colleen) Hoffman; sister-in-law, JoEllen (Joseph) Hecksel; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Leonora Walters; sister, Juanita (Walters) Turnbow; and in-laws, Brad and Mary Hoffman.
