SKELLETT Thomas Eugene- Age 86, of Flint, died September 22, 2016. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10AM Tuesday, September 27 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 706 Beach St., Flint. Fr. James Mangan celebrant. Interment in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday 4-8PM, and on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8PM at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint. A Rosary will be prayed at 7PM on Monday followed by 3rd. and 4th. degree Knights of Columbus services. Visitation at the church 9-10 AM Tuesday. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Matthew Catholic Church or Powers Catholic High School. Thomas was born November 15, 1929 in Buckley, MI the son of Frank V.B. and Lillian Elsie (Dobson) Skellett. After serving in the Korean War he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1953. He was married to Rose Avalon Tondu on June 19, 1954; she preceded him in death November 22, 2011. Thomas was a supervisor with 38 years of service at Chevy V-8 retiring in 1987. Thomas was active in the Knights of Columbus #695 and 4th Degree #0510. He served as Past Grand Knight and Past Faithful Navigator. He was also previously active in the Boy Scouts of America as an Assistant Scoutmaster Troop 31. Thomas enjoyed his many grand children and great- grandchildren. He loved being "Uncle Gene" to his many nieces and nephews. In his retirement he and Rose were able to travel and they spent many summers camping with their grandkids. For over ten years he enjoyed handcrafting all of the crosses for the Kairos Retreat Program. He is survived by his sons, Thomas (Cathy) of Flint, Victor (Elizabeth) of Clio, Patrick (Kim) of Flint, James (Mary) of Flint; ten grandchildren, Nicholas, J.P., Rachel, Jacob, Gina, Ariel, Alaina, Thomas, James Jr. and Sophia; nine great-grandchildren; step-sisters, Lucille Nelson, Gladys (Floyd) Kevwitch; step-brothers, Cecil Peck, Duard (Doris) Peck; Brother-in-law Elton (Donna) Tondu; many nieces and nephews. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife Rose; his parents, Frank and Lillian; step-mother Mildred; brothers and sisters, Thomas, Victoria, Victor, Lucille, Clarence, Marie, Ruth, Robert, Raymond, Walter, Rex; step-sisters, Irene and Dottie.
