Thomas William NUZUM

August 22, 1942 — February 2, 2011

NUZUM, Thomas William - passed away at Genesys Health Park on February 2, 2011 after an 11 year battle with cancer. Tom was born in Columbus, Ohio on August 22, 1942 to Louella (Knopp) Nuzum and Roger Dowden Nuzum. In 1944 the family moved to the San Francisco Bay area. Tom attended the California College of Art where he received a B.F.A. and M.F.A and acted as student body president. After teaching at San Francisco State, he became a Fullbright Scholar in Valencia, Spain. Following teaching positions at Murray State, Kentucky and the University of Wisconsin, Nuzum moved to Flint where he taught art at Mott Community College from 1973 until the time of his death. He was married to Janelle Otto in 1985 at Woodside Church in Flint. Tom had a passion for art and had a lot of recognition and many exhibits around the world in such places as San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Chelsea and Spain. He has served as president and was a founding father of Buckham Gallery in Flint. He was a kind, intelligent spirit and a very loving husband to Janelle, father to Spencer and Corinne Nuzum. He also leaves behind a brother, Harry Nuzum of Naples, FL; various nieces and nephews. His twin brother, Tim preceded him in death. A service to honor Tom will be held 2 PM Friday, February 25, 2011 at Woodside Church, 1509 E. Court St., Flint. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Buckham Gallery of Flint or PAWS Rescue of Swartz Creek. Tributes may be posted on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
