Thelma Nielsen

NIELSEN, Thelma Ella Marie- Age 98, of Swartz Creek, died Tuesday July 14, 2020. A private family service will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes,  Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Burial will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. In lieu of flowers, Thelma and her family would be grateful for a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in her honor.

Thelma was born May 2, 1922 in Tarrytown, New York, the daughter of Leo F. and Delia (Boucher) Gilbert. She married Charles Davis Nielsen on March 22, 1946 in Swartz Creek and he preceded her in death on April 16, 2019. Thelma  enjoyed  gardening, was a fabulous artist and had a beautiful singing voice. She was a member of the Flint Institute of Arts and Crossroads Village.

Surviving are: children, Diane Marie (Ronald) Horton of Holly, Charles D. Nielsen Jr. of Ann Arbor, Sondra Laura (Mark) Letavis of Grand Blanc, Janet Sue (Jon) Baugher of Owosso; grandchildren, April Harrington, Mandy Obert, Matt Letavis, Amanda Santander, Melissa Reed, Jodi Reed, Neil Baugher, and Charles Nielsen III; great grandchildren, Alexandria Wallace, Tylor Wallace, Katherine Santander, Andrea Santander, Luis Santander, C.J. Reed, Athena Arrowood, Madison Reed, Hutton Arrowood, Benjamin Reed, Elizabeth Reed, Allison Martin, Bradley Reed, Charlotte Reed, Elijah Reed and one great-great-grandson, Jacob Adkins. She is survived by brother, Norman D. (Marylou) Gilbert of FL and many nieces and nephews.

She was  preceded in death by her parents, Delia and Leo Gilbert; brother, Ronald Gilbert; granddaughter, Megan Letavis; and step-grandson, Brent Harrington. Our family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to the staff at Bella Vita Assisted Living in Grand Blanc for the loving care they gave Thelma in her last years.
