COLE, Sylvia Loretta "Mama Shannon" - age 84, of Fenton formerly of East Detroit, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2019. Visitation will be held 2-8 PM Tuesday, May 28 and 9-10:30 AM Wednesday, May 29 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. On Wednesday we will depart at 10:30 AM from the funeral home in procession to drive around Lake Shannon on the way to church for Funeral service at 12 PM at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 13667 Highland Rd., Hartland. Pastor Chris Thoma & Pastor Pies officiating. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service, location will be announced. Contributions would be appreciated to Our Savior Lutheran Church or Make-A-Wish Foundation. Sylvia was born August 19, 1934 in Detroit, the daughter of Raymond and Loretta (Rein) de Steiger. She was a child advertising model from ages 3 to 6 for Pontiac Motor Company and Household Finance Company. Sylvia graduated from East Detroit High School and later Michigan State University with a BA in Journalism. She was a Crime Reporter for the Pontiac/Oakland Press before she was self-employed as a Lake Developer and Real Estate Broker. Along with her former husband Jim Cole, they developed over a dozen lakes in Michigan including Lake Sherwood in Milford, Lake Ogemaw in West Branch, and Lake Shannon in Fenton where she made her home and raised her family. Sylvia had been President of the Lake Shannon Women's Organization and the Lake Shannon Water Ski Club. She was a member of the Lake Shannon Sportsman Club and prior member of the Lake Shannon Bowling League and the Lake Shannon Ladies Pinochle Club. She had been a member of the Livingston County Board of Realtors, serving on their Professional Standards Committee. Sylvia was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and also had served as the President of the Transfiguration Lutheran Women's Club. She also served as President of the Fenton Newcomers Club and had been a member of the Fenton Branch of The National Farm and Garden Association. Sylvia was very active and civic minded also serving in the Zonta Club, and as a Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Assistant Leader. Surviving are: her children, Christine (David) Belisario and Harold (Dee) Cole; step daughter, Linda (Paul) Cole; grandchildren, Joshua Cole and Joi (Darin) Francis; sister, Rose Marie (William) Stiehl; nieces and nephews; Peter, David, Lisa, Michelle, Timothy, and Sheri; and several great nieces and great nephews.
