Stanley Cooke

COOKE, Stanley Thomas - Age 88, of Linden, formerly of Higgins Lake, died Friday, April 22, 2016. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, April 25, 2016 at Linden United Methodist Church, 201 S. Bridge St., Linden. Pastor Crystal Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2 - 6 PM Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until the time of service at the church on Monday. Those desiring may make contributions to Linden United Methodist Church or a Charity of One's Choice. Stanley was born August 17, 1927 in Flint, the son of Matthew Thomas and Elizabeth (McCulloch) Cooke. He graduated from Flint Tech in 1945 and married Beverly Telford on October 22, 1949 in Detroit. He worked at IBM from 1948-1987. Stanley was a member of the Houghton Lake United Methodist church and served as a chairman of the finance committee, the endowment fund and scholarship fund for college students.He attended the University of Michigan and also had a lifetime membership as a 32nd degree mason. He was on the Gerrish Township Zoning board of appeals and was a former Treasurer of Higgins Lake Property Owners. He liked to travel, including camping each summer around the U.S. with his wife and daughters. After retirement he wintered in Orange Beach, AL. Stanley was very active in square dancing, golf, and a Ham Radio Operator. He enjoyed reading, watching sports, especially baseball, golf and football. Stanley is survived by his wife, Beverly; three daughters, Diane (Mark) MacDermaid, Deborah (James) Sutton, Denise (Joel) Baird; nine grandchildren, Heather, Kevin, Ryan, Kyle, Adam, Andrew, Laura, Courtney and Christian; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
