TREVITHICK, Richard Kennedy  Age 20, of Gaines, died April 14, 2004 serving his country in Balad, Iraq. Funeral Services will be held 1 PM Friday, April 23, 2004 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 6273 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, Pastor James Nelson (father-in-law), Pastor Clarence Kennedy (grandfather) and Pastor Richard Coss will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be held 6-9 PM Tuesday, 11 AM  3 PM and 6-9 PM Wednesday and Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. He was born to parents Richard and Barbara Trevithick on October 5, 1983. On May 15, 1988 Richard accepted Jesus into his life that he might one day be with Him in heaven. He attended Swartz Creek Schools and graduated in June of 2002. Richard enjoyed spending time with friends, playing basketball, and watching sports. He was fun loving, easy going and very determined. Rich had developed a strong faith in the Lord. He left for Fort Leonardwood on July 17, 2002 and later went to serve as a Combat Engineer in Schweinfurt, Germany. On June 14 of 2003 Richard proposed to his childhood sweetheart Kristin Nelson and they were married on December 12, 2003 at First Baptist Church of Swartz Creek where the couple attended. They were married for four short months when Richard went to be with the Lord on April 14, 2004 while serving his country in Balad, Iraq. He was only 20 years old, and he is a Hero. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Kristin (Nelson) Trevithick; father and mother Richard and Barbara (Kennedy) Trevithick; brother Ryan and sister Rachel; father-in-law and mother-in-law Jim and Becky (Cruse) Nelson; grandparents Richard and Barbara Trevithick of Flint; grandfather Clarence Kennedy of Maine; aunts Genie Trevithick and Carolyn Kennedy both of Flint; aunts and uncles David and Judy Kennedy, Harold and Donna Kennedy all of New York; along with many other cousins, relative, and friends. Richard was preceded in death by grandmother Jewel Kennedy of Maine. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to the Richard K. Trevithick Memorial Fund.
