Sonia Marie Gleason

Sonia Marie Gleason was born in Flint, Michigan, on September 22, 1934 to Robert and Miriam Roden. Under the thoughtful care of her compassionate hospice and medical team caregivers, she went to be with our Lord in Heaven on February 25, 2024, reuniting with many family members, friends and pups.

Known for her kindness, generosity and warmth (and incredible cooking/baking!), she touched the lives of everyone she met.

Sonia was the loving mother of Christine (Jim); dear aunt to Paul (Brooke) Munson, Janet McCullough, Debi (Dale) Ackerman and Shirley (Dan) Philips, as well as great aunt, cousin, second mom and unparalleled friend to many. Sonia was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Elizabeth (the late Don) Munson and Ruth (the late Stuart) Turfus; her nephew, Dave (Jennifer) Munson; as well as many treasured friends.

Sonia was truly the salt of the earth. She taught much and loved more. She helped loved ones and strangers alike. She loved all animals, especially the various pups that were lucky enough to call her mom throughout the course of her life.

Per her wishes, there will be no public service, but we ask anyone who knew/loved Sonia to spend a few minutes remembering a fond memory of our mom in the coming days, and to share those cherished memories in the guestbook. Memorial donations may be made in Sonia’s honor to the Humane Society of Genesee County, Ascension Genesys Foundation or a Hospice of choice.
