HEMPEL, Shirley Jean  Age 73, of Holland, MI, formerly of Flint, died Monday, December 12, 2005 at St. Marys Hospital in Grand Rapids. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, December 16, 2005 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Pastor Wayne H. Wentzel officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint. The family will receive friends from 5-9 PM Wednesday and 2-4 and 6-9 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Hempel was born April 19, 1932 in Flint, the daughter of Lester Roy and Leona Elizabeth (Payton) Wilson. She married Rudolph Hempel on November 21, 1948. Mrs. Hempel retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. She had resided in Holland, MI since 1993 and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Holland. Mrs. Hempel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She always lived a Christian life and was compassionate, caring and loving to everyone she knew. Those that knew her were honored to have her in their lives. She leaves to cherish her memory: beloved husband, Rudolph; beloved daughter, Diane and husband, David Brown of Hudsonville, MI; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Brown and wife, Angie of Grand Rapids, Jennifer Brown of Hudsonville, MI; two great-grandchildren, Xander and Ian Brown; sister, Margie Macgillivray; beloved sister, Beverly Parks; sister, Janet Parker; two brother-in-law, Erich Hempel, Carl Hempel and wife, Ernestine; two sisters-in-law, Rosa Hempel, Eva Hempel; aunt, June Travis; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, Ruby (Jack) Hensley, Mona Drubin, Beckie Adams and Carol Ives.
