GUERIN, Shirley Anne Dalby - Age 101, of Swartz Creek, died at home Monday, April 18, 2022. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek (masks are required to attend the visitation and service). Reverend Karen Arndorfer officiating. Private burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on April 28th at 12 PM until the time of the service. Shirley was born February 2, 1921 at home in Flint, the daughter of Jesse and Minnie (Werth) Dalby. She was a 1939 graduate of Flint Central High School. She attended Flint Junior College and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Western Michigan University and a Masters degree from the University of Michigan. She worked as an educator and reading specialist for 22 years. First, for the Birmingham Public Schools then for Flint Public Schools. After she retired, she enjoyed many hobbies- traveling, reading, sewing and making quilts, and embroidery. She was involved with many organizations, including: St Cecilia Society, McLaren Auxiliary, Bridge Club, Carman-Ainsworth Senior Center, the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP), and the Needlepoint Guild of America (NGA). She was a long time active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Flint.
She married Joseph F. Guerin January 1, 1946 in Flint and enjoyed 53 years of marriage. He preceded her in death August 23, 1999. Surviving are: her daughter, Dr. Nancy L.G. Bernthal of Haslett; son, John J. Guerin of Lake Tahoe, CA; grandsons, T. J. Bernthal of Haslett and Dan Bernthal (Stacey Atchison) of Okemos; nephew, Peter (Barb) Dalby of Pennsylvania; cousin, Bud Prottengeier of Flint.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Lester Dalby. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
The family wishes to thank the loving caregivers of Mid-Michigan Home Care and Hospice. A special thanks to Judy Runyon, who was a generous caregiver and companion to Shirley during the last several years. The family expresses gratitude and appreciation for all involved in her care, allowing her to stay at home as she wished.
