Shirley Ellis

Ellis, Shirley J. age 96, formerly of Flint and Burton Michigan died November 3, 2018 in Kalamazoo, where she resided for 8 yrs. Shirley was born October 31, 1922 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Kassing) Wessler. She married Frederick A. Ellis on May 4, 1946 in St. Louis. They moved to Flint after spending several months living in Yellowstone National Park where Fred was a forest ranger. Fred preceded her in death in 1981, as well as her sister Jeanne Gee in 2012. After high school graduation Shirley attended business school. She was a long time active member of Court Street United Methodist Church and was involved with the Fellowship Class and United Methodist Women. Shirley also was with the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary for 15 years. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling, music, movies and plays, but her passion was the Detroit Tigers. She is survived by four daughters, who were all with her on her birthday this Halloween. Eileen (Al) Campbell of Kalamazoo, Jan (Neil Devins) Ellis of Boston, Beverly Sankary of New York City, and Leslie Ehrich of San Diego. Seven grandchildren, Scott (Leanna Monaco) of Toronto, Caryn (Pete) Campbell Pona of Chicago, Deeb Sankary of New York City, Andrew (Michelle) Ehrich of San Diego, Evan (Molly) Ehrich of San Diego, Emily Ehrich of San Diego and Harrison Devins of Boston. She loved her family very much and was the proud great grandmother of six great grand children. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held 11 AM Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center 6063 Fenton Rd. Flint with Rev. Jeremy Peters officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 AM until the service time. Memorial contributions may be made to Court Street United Methodist Church or American Arthritis Foundation.
