OKOPIEN, Sheryl E., "Sherry" age 61, of formerly of Fenton, died Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at home surrounded by her family. Services will be 3PM Friday, February 6, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Pastor Art Reich officiating. The family will receive friends 1PM Friday until time of service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Genesys Hospice or Peace Lutheran Church. Sherry was born December 30, 1947 in Dayton, Ohio the daughter of Harry Weng and Phyllis Bullock. She married Larry Okopien on July 22, 1967 in Davison. Sherry was employed by ReMax Town and Country as a realtor. She thoroughly enjoyed her profession, and it showed as she helped and guided people with kindness each day. Sherry was a classy lady with a caring heart who is remembered as a good daughter and sister and most importantly a loving mother, grandmother and wife. She will be missed dearly, and loved forever. Surviving are her husband of 41 years, Larry; 3 children, Steve Okopien (Vicki) of Birch Run, Scott Okopien (Tiffany) of Swartz Creek, Kristin Okopien of Sault Ste. Marie; 6 grandchildren, Alex, Joseph, Austin, Nick, Alexis, Jackson; mother, Phyllis Zaruba of Swartz Creek; 5 siblings, Sandy Thayer of Burton, Sue Berger (Ron) of Flint Twp., Harry Weng Jr. (Tammy) of Ishpeming, Dawn Summerfield (Tom) of Alpena, John Weng (Diane) of Flint; special aunts and uncles, Jack and Eleanor Karnes of Flint, Ed and Jean Okopien of Grand Blanc; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Weng. The family extends special thanks to "Dr. Mark" Zalupski for his heartfelt concern; to Chris J. of Genesys Hospice for his gentle hand and heartfelt hugs; and much love and appreciation to Debbie Upleger, Kari Hartley, agents and staff at ReMax Town and Country for the unconditional support they provided.
