Sherry Vankuren

VanKuren, Sherry Sue Surface Horton -- Age 65, of Flint Township, was called Home on April 25, 2016 at the Genesee Care Center. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Friday April 29 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, Rev. Glenn Tatterson officiating. Burial at Flint Memorial Park, Mt. Morris. Visitation will be held 1-4 PM and 6-8 PM Thursday, 11 AM until the time of the funeral at 1 PM Friday . Those desiring may make contributions to the Flint Baptist Temple. Sherry was born September 23, 1950 in Flint the daughter of William and Annabelle (Graydon) Surface. She was a 1968 graduate of Bendle High School. She started her career in high school working for John Hancock, and ended her career working for Barnhart, Gremel Marsh Agency. She worked up until December 2015. She married Robert VanKuren on March 11, 1995. Sherry was a charter member and served faithfully at the Flint Baptist Temple for over 60 years. Her many church activities included the choir, past Junior Department Superintendent, Briarwood Nursing Home Ministries, Joy Group, Ladies Tea, Missionary Store, AWANA Club, Back to the Bricks Water Ministry, and Secret Sisters. Sherry loved everyone, and everyone loved Sherry. Surviving are: husband of 21 years, Robert VanKuren; son Jeremy Horton; sister, Shirley and Charles Johnson; sister-in-law, Janet Surface; nephew and nieces; Tab and Paula, Rhonda and Floyd, LaDonna , Kim and Donnie, Leslie and DeeDee, William and Amy; many great nieces and nephews; best friend, Pat Standen.
