SKENE, Sandra Lee (Smith) -- Age, 78, of Fenton formerly of Lapeer, passed away on May 9, 2020, in her home. She was not ill; her passing was sudden and heartbreaking. Sandy was born on May 6, 1942, to Blanch (Beckman) Bowman and Thurston E. Smith in Lapeer, Mi. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy (Smith) Woyciechowski, first husband, Michael T. Ritchie and husband, Gary A. Skene. She is survived by her sister/daughter, Charlene (Bowman) King, Carey M. Ritchie, Kelly J. Skene, Kristin (Skene) Frye and Karla M. Skene, eight grandchildren; Kathleen (Curtiss) Mattaway, Jacob King, Heidi Ritchie, Scott Rittichier, Rachael Rittichier, Eliza Frye, Waverly Ritchie and Alexander Frye. Sandy graduated from Lapeer High School in 1960 where she served as their Drum Majorette. She graduated from MCC with an R.N. in Nursing and retired from the State of Michigan as the Head Psych Nurse at Fairlawn Center and Clinton Valley. Sandy was a loyal member of the DAR, Clarkston Chapter, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Moose International. She is a former Lapeer Jaycees member. She was especially grateful to our American Veterans and would often be seen approaching a uniformed officer in public, would hug them and thank them for her service. Sandy was an avid genealogy researcher and scrap booker. She especially cherished her time with her children, family and friends. She will be missed as the kindest woman they knew, for her quick wit and being the life of the party. A Memorial Service/Dinner is planned for September 10, 2020 in Lapeer. Mi. where we will all raise our glasses together to this remarkable woman. Donations may be made to the Clarkston DAR / Academic Scholarships. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
