Sandra Rae Perkins
April 17, 1948 — March 3, 2024
PERKINS, Sandra Rae (04/17/1948 - 03/03/2024), mother, grandmother and great-great
grandmother died after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Sandy grew up in Kingsford, Michigan where she graduated salutatorian of her high school class.
Upon graduation she attended Northern Michigan University on a music scholarship before
completing her degree in microbiology from the University of Michigan - Flint.
Sandy worked at McLaren Hospital, in the microbiology lab for nearly 45 years. She was also a
member of the Tyrone Covenant Presbyterian Church in Fenton for the last 45 years.
Sandy was an excellent clarinetist. She was a founding member of the Genesee Wind
Symphony. She also played in the Genesee Concert Band, Flint Community Band, Marquette
City Band and the Vassar Community Band. In her free time she enjoyed traveling, especially to
Norway Lake in the UP and Kauai, playing golf, playing cards (especially bridge), gardening,
spoiling her pets, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her three children: Deborah (Scott) Sherrill, Brian (Taylor) Perkins, and Rachel
Courtemache. Her eight grandchildren: Victoria Sharich (Vern Harlock), Amanda Sherrill,
Christopher (Caitlin) Sherrill, Rebekah Perkins, Patrick Perkins, Elise Perkins, Drake
Courtemache, and Rowan Courtemache. And her five Great Grandchildren: Alexander
Quackenbush, Corbin Sharich, Emma Sherrill, Eleanor Sherrill, and Elias Sherrill.
She is preceded in death by her parents Verne and Verda Shanks, brother Hugh Shanks and
sister Virginia (Shanks) Wenk.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 20. 2024
at the Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center (6063 Fenton Road, Grand Blanc, Michigan)
with the Reverend Scott Sherrill presiding. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Saturday from
11:00 AM until the time of service. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made in Sandra’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or the
National Wildlife Fund. Plants are welcomed, but please no cut flower arrangements.
