Sandra Marie Bailey was born in Flint, Michigan, on Sept. 3, 1938, to the William and Thelma (Bryant) Ingham. She passed away on July 19, 2024 at Symphony of Linden.

She grew up an active child in a home filled with love and attention alongside her little brother Bill. She graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1956, where she played basketball and nurtured what became a lifelong love of competition and sports. Following graduation, she attended Hurley School of Nursing, where she earned her Registered Nurse certification. She went on to work in Hurley’s OB/GYN unit, caring for post-partum mothers for years.

Following graduation from Hurley, Sandra married Albert Daron and they moved to Flushing, where they raised their children William, Lori, and Alan. Sandra loved animals, especially dogs and horses. She showed German Shepherd dogs, earning a number of titles, and cheered on her children as they showed horses across Michigan and beyond. The family spent many weekends at horse shows with a community of friends and competitors as they won numerous trophies large and small.

Sandra and Albert divorced, and she later married George Bailey, moving with him from Michigan to Elkin, North Carolina. Following his passing she returned to the Flint area to live near her children and grandchildren.

Sandra loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping and fishing. She spent many happy summer nights camping and enjoying time with her children and friends. She also loved arts and crafts, especially knitting and quilting, and found great joy in piecing quilts for loved ones. She also cherished her church family at NewLife Community Lutheran Church in Swartz Creek.

She was a Detroit Lions fan through the good years and the many, many, bad years, and was an especially proud diehard Michigan State University sports fan. She took great pleasure in playfully stoking the rivalry with any University of Michigan fan she encountered.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, George Bailey. She is survived by her children William (Laura Probyn) Daron, of Kalamazoo; Lori (Darryl Starr) Ferrara, of Fenton, and Alan (Michelle) Daron, of Fenton; grandchildren Brad (Kayli) Ferrara of DeWitt; Savannah Ferrara, of Fenton; Paige Daron and Connor Daron, also of Fenton; and great-grandson Cade Ferrara. She is also survived by her brother William (Beth) Ingham of Buffalo, New York, and several nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful to the staff at Symphony of Linden for their loving care of Sandra.
