Samuel Edward Morello, 87, of Fenton passed away on October 18, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A Celebration of Life will be held 2 PM Thursday, October 26 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Visitation will be from 11 AM - 2 PM on Thursday. Born in Detroit on December 18, 1935, Samuel was the son of the late Sam and Mildred (Dillon) Morello. Samuel grew up in Detroit with a large extended family nearby, graduating from Cass Tech High School in 1954. Sam attended The University of Michigan, initially studying architecture, then left for art school in San Francisco, and earned his MFA at The University of Michigan in 1962. Sam served for over 34 years at Flint Junior College/Genesee Community College/Mott Community College in the Fine Arts department initially as an instructor and later administrator. Sam lived in Flint from 1962 until 1979, then moved to Fenton where he enjoyed sailing with the Lake Fenton Sailing Club. Samuel is known for his woodcut printmaking skill. He was always very active in the Flint art community, and was one of the founding members of Buckham Gallery in downtown Flint. Samuel leaves behind his loving wife Marg, daughter Lea Morello (Mark Morra), son Samuel (Carole), step sons William (Ann) Chatterson, and Kip (Laura) Chatterson, step daughter Tammy (Tim) Tigner, eleven grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, special nieces, and numerous cousins.
