BICKLEY, Samuel M. Age 97 of Grand Blanc died Monday, June 29, 2015. A memorial Mass will be held on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 11:30AM at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 7296 S. Gale Rd., Goodrich, Fr. Michael Kuchar celebrant. Internment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30AM until the time of service at the church on Monday. Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Sam was born March 27, 1918, the son of Charles A. Bickley and Mabel D. (Maxwell) Bickley in Flint. He was a graduate of Flint Central High School in 1936. He attended Flint Commercial College, Wright Junior College and Texas A&M in the years following. He married Katharine McCaughna on July 18, 1942 in Flint. He served in the Navy during World War II as an aviation radar technician. Sam went to work at General Foundry and Manufacturing in Burton becoming president of the company in 1963. He was very active in the community, giving of his time and talents to many organizations. He headed the American Foundrymen's Society Saginaw Valley Chapter and served on the boards of directors for Boy Scouts Tall Pine Council, Flint Salvation Army, Flint Chamber of Commerce, Flint Manufacturers Association, Junior Achievement and was treasurer for St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Stores. In 1974, Sam and Katy moved to Canada Creek Ranch in Atlanta, MI where he established his business, Pioneer Contracting, later known as Pioneer Homes and Builders, LLC. He served on the board of directors at Canada Creek Ranch for several years, as well as the board for the Thunder Bay Clinic in Hillman. Sam retired at age 86 and he and Katy moved back to the Flint area in 2006, continuing to use their northern Michigan home as a summer retreat. He is survived by children, Ann (Ken) Becker of Wisconsin, David (Mary E.) Bickley of Atlanta, Mary K. Bickley of Grand Blanc, and Charles C. Bickley of Elk Rapid; 10 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 3 nieces. Preceded in death by loving wife of 72 years, Katharine, parents, sister Josephine Leach, and first born son, John Richard Bickley.
