THATCHER, Russel V., age 86 formerly of Flint, died at his home in Vanderbilt, MI on Friday, October 16, 2009. He was born in Flushing on February 5, 1923 the son of Roy and Frances (Chapin) Thatcher. Russel married Shirley Sickner in 1944 and she preceded him in death in 1990. Russel was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was retired from Buick Motor Division after many years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Flushing Post VFW #5666 and the American Legion Post 0496. Surviving are his three children; Larry R. Thatcher (Nancy) of Brighton, Ray L. Thatcher (Billye) of Vanderbilt, MI and Sue A. Gladding (Robert) of Flint. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 8 Great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 19, 2009 at the Chapel of Flint Memorial Park Cemetery with entombment to follow in the mausoleum. Rev. James F. Offrink will officiate. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 5151 Lennon Rd., Flint with Rev. James F. Offrink officiating.
