BATES, Russell Gene - age 83 of Flint, died Tuesday, June 24, 2014. Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Wednesday, July 2 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint. Burial will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions to the family, c/o Sharp Funeral Homes. Russell was born October 1, 1930 in Chapin Twp, MI the son of Frank and Hazel (Sutliff) Bates. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his children, Betty (Craig) Walters, Alwin (Melonie) Bates, Mary FaVel, David Bates, John Bates; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers, Cliff (Eve) Bates, Alvin Bates, Don (Doris) Bates; sister, Vernice Slee.
