Ruben M. Arceo – a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully with his family at his side at home on December 10, 2022.
Funeral Mass will be held 10 AM Thursday, December 15 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church 2415 Bagley St. Flint. Visitation will be held 12-3 PM and 4-8 PM Wednesday, December 14 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center 6063 Fenton Rd. Grand Blanc. Also visitation will be held 9 AM on Thursday at the Church until the time of Mass. Scripture service 7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
Ruben was born to Rafael and Fermina Arceo in Flint, Michigan on September 25, 1934. He graduated from Flint Central High School in 1953 and was a member of the Varsity Basketball team. After High School Ruben attended Mott Community College before starting his 30-year career at General Motors Service and Parts Operations. He retired from GM in 1991.
He was a strong family man, and his values shine today within his children. Ruben met his charming wife, Margaret Meir, at the Flint Toby Club. They were married in 1965. Throughout the years, they spent time with family, friends, camping, skiing at Mt Holly and out West. Ruben and Margaret were married for 57 years.
He spent 13 years in the Michigan National Guard, was a member of the Flint Toby Club, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus #10170.
When you met Ruben, you knew that besides his family, golf and skiing were his passions.
To help promote golf, he was a volunteer with the Flint Junior Golf and a 51-year volunteer at the Buick Open. He was well known as a scratch golfer with 2 hole-in-ones. The last one occurring at the age of 82.
His true passion was skiing. Ruben spent 35 years at Mt Holly on the National Ski Patrol (1961-1996). He was the first President of the Schussmeisters Ski Club (1961) and served as a ski school instructor for the Ski Club for many years. Ruben was instrumental and a driving force to start the Powers Catholic High School Ski Team (1985).
Ruben is survived by his wife Margaret, their children, Jan (Scott) Grava, Doug (Karen) Arceo, four grandchildren, Zac (Mackenzie) Grava, Jacob Grava, Allyson Grava, and Amanda Arceo, brothers David (Olga) Arceo, Ralph Arceo, and sister Nancy Foley.
In his memory, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Flint Michigan. Tributes may be shared on the obituaries page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
