Roy L. Hawley

HAWLEY, Roy L.  Age 94, died Wednesday, January 13, 2004 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Services were held 6:00 PM Thursday, January 15, 2004 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., (just south of Hill Rd.) Flint with Rev. Dan Coleman officiating. Mr. Hawley was born in Essex, Missouri March 13, 1909. He came to Flint when he was 17. He worked in a restaurant until he was employed at Chevrolet and began driving a taxi. He became owner and operator of Yellow and Deluxe Cab and E.L. Hollingsworth Trucking Co. He married Kathleen Yeadon in Flint in 1932 where they worked together in the company for 45 years. Mr. Hawley was active in many organizations. He was a member of the City Transportation Planning Commission, a charter member and Commander of the Flint Power Squadron. Mr. Hawley was a life member 3rd degree Mason with Genesee F& AM Lodge # 174, a life member of the Bay City Consistory and the Elf Khurafeh Temple. He loved showing horses and was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Flint Horse Show Association for many years. Mr. Hawley was also a life member of BPO Elks Flint Lodge #222. Surviving are: daughter, Barbara Jean Lopez and husband, Carlos of Flint; two grandchildren, Karla Ann, teacher and artist of Los Angeles, CA, Carlos Jr., college student in Flint; brother, William Russell Hawley of Flint; several nieces and nephews, including, William L. and wife, Gayle, Russell A. and wife, Pat, Cathy Petriken and husband, Mike, Linda Fairchild and husband, David; many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; his sister, Lillian Capps; brother, TJ Hawley. Mr. Hawley was a caring man, a people person who dedicated his time to helping his family and friends.
