"Death ends a life, not a relationship. All the love you created is still there. All the memories are still there. You live on- in the hearts of everyone you have touched and nurtured while you were here." Shoup, Ronald Edwin - Age 79, of Byron Center formerly of Flint, died Tuesday, April 23, 2019 surrounded by his family. Born in Flint, MI on October 5, 1939 to Clarence and Isabelle (Lawrence) Shoup, the overture of Ron's life would be firmly rooted in Christ and music. Ron graduated from Flint Central in 1957 and then met the treble to his bass, Evelyn (Greb) in 1958 while attending Flint Community College. In perfect harmony the two studied music at Western Michigan University where they earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education. The tied notes then attended Michigan State University where they both earned a Master of Music degree in Music Education. Ronald and Evelyn were married on August 18, 1962. During their nearly 57 years of marriage, Ron and Evelyn created an ensemble starting with their daughter, Kristen (Ted) Lausman of Grand Rapids, MI, and sons, David (Julie) Shoup of Colorado Springs, CO, Mark (Deola) Shoup of Franklin, WI, and Andrew (Kimberly) Shoup of DeWitt, MI. Their ensemble grew even larger throughout the years with the addition of 8 grandchildren: Derrek, Kamren, Makyala, Alexa, James, and Jonathan Shoup, and Anna and Elizabeth Lausman. The opus of Ron's life included teaching for Flint Public Schools in Flint, MI for 35 years. During that time, he directed Flint Northern High School's band leading them to multiple top ratings and invitations to perform throughout the state. After retiring, Ron served as the band director for Flint St. Paul Lutheran School for an additional 18 years. Ron rejoiced in the success of his bands and students. Students remember Ron's humorous tone and love for puns, jokes, and enthusiastic stories. The tempo of Ron's saga was far from slow. He was an active member of the Michigan State Band and Orchestra Association where he held several offices and of Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity. He was also the former Director of Flint Jr. Symphony, played euphonium for the Flint Concert Band, and sang with the Flint Festival Chorus and Flint Master Singers. As with any hymn, God was at the center of his life. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Flint, MI and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, MI. In addition to leaving behind his beautiful beloved wife, children, and grandchildren, Ron will be missed by his brother, Larry (Anne) Shoup, and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Raymond Shoup, father-in-law, Louis Greb, and mother-in-law, Anna Greb. Funeral services will be Friday, April 26, 1pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 402 S Ballenger Hwy, Flint, MI 48532. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery, 4413 Flushing Rd, Flint, MI 48504.
