VERRELL, Roger Clarence - Age 78, of Visalia, CA formerly of the Swartz Creek area, died Saturday September 10, 2011 in California. Cremation has taken place and services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Pastor Donald Neuville officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service. Those desiring may make contributions to a charity of one's choice in memory of Roger. Roger was born June 4, 1933 in Flint, the son of Lloyd and Florence Verrell. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Air Force. He married Mary M. Pocock June 14, 1952 in Flint and she preceded him in death December 2, 2003; he then married Barbara Lanning September 2004. Roger retired from GM Truck and Bus after 28 years of service. He served on the Swartz Creek School Board for many years and was a past president. He also was a member of the Genesee County Kennel Club. Surviving are: wife, Barbara; 4 children, Renee Kayanek of Lennon, Russell Verrell of Bath, Rhonda and husband Fred Winegardner of Benton Harbor and Rick and wife Roxanne Verrell of Swartz Creek; 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; sister, Joyce and husband Art Schlosser of Florida; several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mark Verrell. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Beverly and Mike Mahoney.
