Roger Alan Borland , beloved son of Marlene and Charles (Denny) Borland, died on July 7, 2021 at Kith Haven hospice. He was preceded in death by his father, his favorite uncle Billy, his grandparents, his special aunts Dorothy, Beatrice, and Virginia, and his beloved dog Rosie. He leaves behind his mother, his favorite aunt Honey, and his special cousins, Pam, Roberta, Joanne, Kim, Lynne, Amy and Deborah as well as his special friends : June, his “shopping buddy”Dan Westerlund and his Florida friends, Diane, Isobel, Melody, and Carol as well as the many friends he made at Paragon.
Roger lived his 56 years with a zest for life.He loved UM sports and attended many games at the Big House. His favorite colors were maize and blue. He loved to travel whether camping with his Scout troop, vacations with his family, or trips with his Quality of Living System friends. His favorite destinations were Florida, Mackinaw City, and Traverse City.
Roger loved listening to Elvis Presley, who he sang and danced to while wearing the Elvis cape his mother made as a surprise for him. Roger treated those he loved to Elvis concerts every chance he had and one of his favorite trips was to Graceland.
Roger was a highly competitive sportsman.He bowled with the Grand Blanc Terminators league, walked in the Lois Craig Crim Walk, and he enjoyed golfing in the summer. His walls were filled with trophies and medals he earned.
For Roger, life’s joys were simple, making new friends, bringing smiles to all. He enjoyed dining out and had a favorite meal at every place.
Roger achieved much in his life with his Irish spirit and determination. He graduated from special education, worked at Meijer’s and did work through the Compass and Vocational independence Vocational Program.
Roger was blessed to have the support of may wonderful caregivers which the family wishes to recognize. First, to his extended family at Quality Living Systems , Denise, Leisa, Nancy, Randy, Becky, Jamie, and especially Jodi, who was a “godsend” to the family during the final months of Roger’s life. The family also wishes to recognize the staff at Farmtree and Kith Haven for their compassionate care.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m Friday, July 16, 2021 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton. Visitation will precede from 10:00 am - 11:00 am. Those wishing to make a contribution in memory of Roger may do so to a charity of your choice or to Quality Living Systems.
