Roderick D. Greene, of Grand Rapids, MI, went to be with Jesus early morning on Sunday, March 14, 2021. He was preceded in death by all of his siblings: Verna (Morrice) Wiley, Doris (Leonard) Fisher, Harvey (Rachel) Greene, Joyce Parr, Lynne Marie Greene and his dear son, Jason (Angie) Greene. We choose to believe that Jason met his Dad at the Pearly Gates; what a joyous reunion!
Rod is survived by his wife of nearly (5/14) 48 years, Carmen, his beloved daughter, Jennifer (Dave) Denton, his daughter-in-love, Angela (Jason) Greene and the three treasures of his life, his Grand Grands, Chase Greene, Delaney Denton and Ryleigh Greene, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Born in Flint, Rod attended Dye Elementary, Utley Junior High and Ainsworth High School. From 1966 - 1969 Rod served in the U.S. Army as an E5. He served one year in Vietnam. Upon his return, he attended Spring Arbor College for 1 year; transferred to the University of Windsor and returned to Spring Arbor, where he met his wife. Rod and Carmen lived in Flint, where Rod worked for GM and they were blessed with their two children.
In 1985, Rod was accepted into training in Lansing as a Corrections Officer for the state, graduating the program in the top of his class. He then worked for 22+ years in what was then the State Prison of Southern Michigan, on Cooper St., in Jackson. During this time, Rod saved the life of a fellow C.O. Rod retired on January 31st, 2007.
Rod and his wife moved to Grand Rapids, following their children and in preparation for their grandchildren. Rod was an active member of Lifestream Free Methodist church for over 12 years. He enjoyed every minute with his children and his grands!
