Roberta E. (Herman) Smith, 91, of South Haven, formerly of Flint, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022. Born to Creston and Calicia Herman on February 12, 1931 in Montrose Michigan. United in marriage to the late Edward F. (Ted) Smith on August 9, 1952, in Flint Michigan.
Roberta is survived by her only child Marla (Marty) Zwolan, granddaughter Stephanie Zwolan Gonzalez (Jason), grandson Christopher Zwolan and brother Edmund (Shirley) Herman. Roberta is also survived by sister-in-laws Jean Smith, Melva Smith and Ruth Tempel, along with many nieces and nephews. Roberta is preceded in death by her parents Creston and Calicia Herman and husband of 65 years Edward (Ted) Smith.
Roberta was a 1948 graduate of Montrose High School and Flint Junior College. She worked at Citizens Bank in Flint after college and again later in life. She enjoyed her coworkers and was an active member of the Citizens Bank Ladies Golf League. Roberta was a devoted Christian and met the love of her life, Ted, at the Salvation Army Church where she was very active for many years. She loved to keep busy and was an avid golfer and gardener. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting and crocheting. The family would like to thank the staff of River Ridge Assisted Living in South Haven, Bronson South Haven Hospital and Caring Circle Hospice for all their kindness in caring for Roberta. Many thanks also to the staff of Woodhaven Assisted Living in Flint Township where Roberta previously resided.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Roberta’s life will be held on August 6th, 2022 at 11AM at Sharp Funeral Home, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, MI. Major Kathy Hellstrom will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army. Tributes may be made at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
