Roberta “Peggy” Elaine Blades, of Flint Twps., aged 88, departed this world February 25, 2025 at Genesys Hospital, after a brief illness, surrounded by her three children. A private Celebration of Life will be held this summer.
Peggy was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 27, 1936 to Margaret (Willet) and Stanley Martin. She graduated Atherton High School in 1955 and worked at Citizens Bank in Flint. On October 19, 1957 she married her high school sweetheart James “Jim” H. Blades. She was a beloved wife (66 years), mother, grandmother, and friend. In 1971 she received her realtors license and worked at Gerholz Realty in Flint and later at Century 21 in Fenton. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star Flint chapter #138. She was a member of Questers Dibbleville chapter in Fenton and was instrumental in the restoration of the Old Prospect Hill section of Oakwood cemetery, AJ Phillips Library/Museum, and many other preservations projects across Michigan. She enjoyed raising her family, traveling, spending time in nature, birdwatching and doing cross-stitch. After retirement she and Jim traveled extensively by motorhome throughout the United States. They enjoyed their Alaskan adventure immensely.
Roberta is survived by her children Matthew (Gail) Blades of Fenton, Lisa (Kevin) Bible of Bancroft, and Michael (Ingelin) Blades of Dolores, CO; her grandchildren, Chad (Hannah) Blades of Linden, Chelsea Blades of Van Nuys, CA and Brooke (Matt) Minkel of Fort Collins, CO; and her great grandchildren, Kory and Amaya Minkel of Fort Collins, CO. She was proceeded in passing by her parents and husband James Blades.
