WESTERVELT, Robert L. - Age 79, of Incline Village, NV, died Monday, March 22, 2010 in Reno, NV. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley St, Flint. Fr. Thomas Firestone celebrant. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek Monday from 1-4 and 6-9 PM and at church Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of service. A vigil service will be held at the funeral home Monday at 7:00 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Boy Scouts of America. Robert was born January 22, 1931 in Flint, the son of Robert L. and Marie (Schlee) Westervelt. He graduated from Flint Northern High School, M.S.U. and attended U of M and several foreign universities while obtaining a Masters Degree. He was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Greece and England. He was an F.B.I. agent, a C.I.A. agent and Chief of Security for Hughes Tool Co. (U.S.), Creole Oil Co. (Venezuela), Mattel Corp. (Hong Kong), Intel Corp. (Malaysia) and Chief of Foreign Security for Levi Straus Corp. Mr. Westervelt was a 23-year resident of Incline Village (Lake Tahoe), NV and was an avid skier, political and family historian, and deep-water sailor. He owned 2 ocean-going sailboats and crossed the Atlantic several times in his own boats. Surviving are: 2 brothers, William and wife Peggy Westervelt of Birmingham and David and wife Debbie Westervelt of Tecatonic, IL; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
