Robert Stengel

STENGEL, Robert Henry - Age 60, of Gaines passed away peacefully December 17, 2016 surrounded by his family. Bob was born July 14, 1956 to Walter and Harriett (Kelly) Stengel. He grew up on Glenn Ave in Flint, but enjoyed a large extended family in Argentine. In 1967 Bob's family moved to the Softwater Lake home and he graduated from Linden High School. Bob worked for Webcor Packaging Solutions his entire career until retirement early this year. He was a master problem solver and was a quiet steady force working behind the scenes. Bob was an early computer programmer and saw Compak Webcor through several generations of owners families manage technology with offices in Durand, Flint, and Burton. Bob enjoyed family, watching birds and wildlife, his RVs, technology, and tinkering. He was known to everyone as a quiet, kind, hard-working, and generous person. Bob is survived by his father and step-mother, Walter and Whanda Stengel, his brother John Stengel, sister-in-law Diane White-Stengel, nephews Aaron Stengel and wife Tara, Christopher Stengel and wife Elaine, nieces Sarah Skutt and husband Marc, and Sara Vogel. Uncle Bob also leaves great nieces and nephews Sydney, Katie, Hailey, Colton, Soren, Avery, Meadow, Carissa, and Quentin. He was preceded in death by his mother, Harriett Ann Kelly Stengel in 1996. Per Bob's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral. In remembrance and honor of Bob's eight month long battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, contributions may be made to ALS of Michigan (www.ALSofMichigan.org) or to the ALS Association Michigan Chapter (webmi.ALSa.org) to assist other families dealing with this devastating disease. The family wishes to thank Dr. Daniel S. Newman and the entire ALS Clinic Team at Henry Ford Hospital, Dr. Eric Rosenbaum and the entire team at Genesys Downtown Flint Health Center, and the entire Reverence Health and Hospice team who supported us on this journey.
