Robert Louis Segar

Robert Louis Segar was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 19th, 1935. He died on February 26, 2025 in Ann Arbor, MI surrounded by loved ones. Bob was beloved by many. He was revered for his moral compass and he embodied kindness, patience, wisdom, modesty, respect, and integrity. He also had a fabulous sense of humor and passionately enjoyed eating. He was a devoted husband to his wife Ilene, father to Stephen (Andy), Michelle (Jeff), and Aviva, formerly Diana, (Jimmy), grandfather to Gabe, Caleb, Zach, Bella, and Eli. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing competitions with his friends and family on Walloon Lake. Bob reached the highest level of achievement as a lawyer. In 1966 he argued the landmark Virginia Poll Tax case before the U.S. Supreme Court and won. This landmark case found the requirement of poll taxes to vote in state elections unconstitutional. Bob was in the first graduating class of Mumford High school in Detroit and attended both undergraduate and law school at the University of Michigan. Donations can be made in Bob’s memory to the ACLU or the Southern Poverty Law Center

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, February 27, 2025. at Sharp Funeral Home at 6063 Fenton Rd, corner of Fenton and Hill (Grand Blanc, MI). The service will be livestreamed and may viewed from his obituary page at https://www.sharpfuneralhomes.com/obituaries/robert-segar. Visitation at the funeral home will be 12:00 Noon until the service hour on Thursday. Shiva gathering will follow the burial, concluding with shiva afternoon service and sharing of memories at 5:00pm to be held at Temple Beth El, 5150 Calkins Rd, Flint Twp, MI 48532. The service will also be available on zoom. Friday (2/28) Visiting with family and shiva afternoon service will be held at 614 Soule Blvd, Ann Arbor, MI 48103 from 2:00-4:00pm.Saturday (3/1) Visiting with family and shiva evening service will be held at 5611 Cedar Ridge Dr. Ann Arbor, MI 48103 from 7:00-9:00pm.
