Robert Mack Carter, Ph.D., Age 89, of Mundy Township, died July 23, from heart complications. The memorial service will be held Friday August 28, 11:15 AM at the Grand Blanc United Methodist Church. Visitation begins at 10 AM Pastor Roger Colby, formerly of Grand Blanc United Methodist, will be officiating. Thereafter, the family will inter the cremated remaines at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Citizens for Animal Rescue and Emergency (CARE), P.O. Box 493, Flint, MI 48501. Robert was born in Kennett, Missouri, on Sept. 7, 1925. He graduated from Flint Central High School and earned bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Michigan and a doctorate from Michigan State University. Robert was married to Phyllis A. Carter on Sept. 25, 1948; they were married nearly 67 years. He worked as a consultant in various General Motors plants in the USA and Europe for 30 years. A retired GMI Professor of Communication, he published two books on communications. He also published articles on the history of Bay View on Little Traverse Bay near Petoskey, Michigan. He served in the South Pacific aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Ingham during WW II and later in the Army ROTC and Reserve. He was active in the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Ingham Association from 1986 on. Robert traveled widely and was a Boy Scout Troop chairman in the 1960s, a member of VFW and president of the Flint Retired Men's Fellowship in 1993 and 1994. Robert is survived by wife, Phyllis; daughter Kathrine A. Persich of Gaines Township and sons Richard A. Carter of Glendale, Arizona, George C. Carter of Flint, Michigan, and John P. Carter of Ann Arbor, Michigan, as well as seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and friends. Robert is preceded in death by his sister, Martha Bondesen, and three brothers, Ray, Bill and Cy Carter. The family of Robert M.
