Robert James Orr

ORR, Robert James -- Age 75, of Swartz Creek, died Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at Avalon Hospice. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Friday, January 12 at the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church, 7400 Miller Rd., Pastor J.D. Landis officiating. Interment in Bristol Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-9 PM Wednesday, 2-9 PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church or Avalon Hospice. Mr. Orr was born October 2, 1931 in Flint, the son of James Robert and Helen (Stone) Orr. He was a 1951 graduate of Linden High School. He had resided in Swartz Creek since 1953. He married Mary Leota Brown on July 11, 1953 in Swartz Creek. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from 1951-1955 as a Staff Sergeant. Mr. Orr retired from G.M. - Buick in 1992 with 30 years of service. He was a member of Linden United Methodist Church until 1953 when he became a member of the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church. He was a member the United Methodist Men's Club, the church choir, and the Linden Historical Society. He was a member of the American Legion Post 294, was active in the Cub Scouts Pack 122, and served as a Swartz Creek Volunteer Fireman. He was a loving and devoted husband and caregiver to his wife of 53 years, Mary; he was the loving father to David James Orr and wife Tammy of Clio, and Michelle Lee Stoutjesdyk and husband Jon of Swartz Creek; wonderful and loving grandfather to David Orr and wife Abbie, Joseph Orr and friend Jessica Merritt, and Papa to Kevin James and Julia Stoutjesdyk; loving brother of Anne Morton of Linden; and uncle to three nephews; and one niece.
