Robert Earl Smith

SMITH, Robert Earl "Smitty"- Age 82, of Fenton, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025. Cremation has taken place and services will be announced at a later date. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. 

Robert was born May 15, 1942 in Detroit, the son of Robert Carl and Sophie (Portas) Smith. He was a 1960 graduate of Melvindale High School in Melvindale, Michigan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Marian Tillie Wilkins July 21, 1962, in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Robert had resided in Fenton since 2008 coming from Grand Marais, Michigan/Dearborn, Michigan. He retired from the City of Dearborn as a police officer. He was a member of the Blue Knights, Thin Blue Line, and the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA). He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, riding motorcycles and collecting, shooting & building guns. There was nothing more important to Robert than his family & friends, especially his grandsons. 

Surviving are: his wife of 62 years, Marian; daughter, Deborah (Tim) McKinstry; grandsons, Timothy, Connor and Brendon McKinstry all of Valparaiso, IN; and his 2 dogs Solo & Onyx. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Sophie Smith; daughter, Denise LaForce; brother, Donald Smith & Army dog Onyx. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
